PAD Challenge Day 3 ... A little late, but still poeming away!!

Today's prompt is to write a poem in which you imagine the world without you. Since my favorite movie (It's a Wonderful Life) plays with this idea, I'm surprised I've never used this prompt before. The world could be a much worse place without you, could be pretty much the same, or I guess, it could even be better. Anyway, it's interesting to contemplate our individual contributions to this planet in ways small and large.
You Without Me

You would walk alone

Desperation and unhappiness would engulf your days
All that was yours would be taken away
Your ability to fight would fade
Your cigarettes would consume you
Your soul would slowly turn as black as the coffee you drink
All things would become meaningless
And you would wander in circles
As if a dog chasing his tail
Or a shadow lost in the desert
Climbing dune after dune
Without me you would be all alone.

(Fear not … I am here to stay)

Still playing catch-up ...

My creative juices aren't flowing as well as I want them today (this morning actually...) I skipped to PAD 9  ... just couldn't get the words to work for anything else. I blame it on the late hour and the fact that I am cranky.

2011 April PAD Challenge: Day 9
Posted by Robert

For today's prompt, write a time of day poem.  In fact, make the title of your poem the time of day.  For instance, "5:54 a.m.," 2:23 p.m.," "Midnight," etc.  Then, write your poem.  Of course, different things happen at different times of day.  So have fun with it.

12:15 A.M.

The ever present snoring continues

My frustration builds

What can I do about it?

Go upstairs?

Maybe take a pill?

Neither appease my appetite

They never do

They never will

It’s at this hour when I contemplate everything

What brought me here and do I wish to stay?

Of late … that’s the pressing question:

Do I wish to stay?

I don’t know.

I often wonder if I’d be happier alone

Without the imperfections of others to call my attention

Without their messes to clean up

Without their lack of respect

It’s at this hour when I realize I should be sleeping

Without anger.

Playing catch-up with Robert Lee Brewer's Poetry Challenge

DAY 1

For today's prompt, write a "what got you here" poem. For instance, write a poem about a mode of transportation like your car, bike, horse, etc. Or write a poem about what "got you here" as a human being or writer (like what got you started writing, perhaps). Or write a poem about what brought you to this blog. Or whatever other interpretation you might have.

The Drive Home

The chair I sit in brings comfort
It reclines, swivels and rocks
It comforts me
Both cats purr
One keeping my legs warm
The other my neck
How did I get here?
A 13 hour drive home
Crammed in a car
With no leg room
Only a dirty sweatshirt to keep me warm
I missed my chair.

DAY 2
For today's prompt, write a postcard poem. Make it brief and communicate what it is like where you are. Also, make it personal. My poem is on the way, but I am having trouble producing line breaks with my smart phone. In the meantime, get poeming.

Wish you were here

At sunset the pale colors of blue
Mix with a pastel hint of purple
And the softest shade of pink
As they reflect with the branches
Of budding trees
Over the pond at Grandpa Ron’s
I miss you.

Sadness

I have been absent of late.  My sister passed away on April 4 and I took a few days to say good-bye and spend time with family.  Today, is also my late brother's birthday.  I know they are both together in heaven and should rejoice in knowing such.

My Dx & that Poetry Prompt

It's been quite some time, but I have grand excuse!  I finally went to the doctor to find out I had bronchitis and a sinus infection; let's not forget that my blood pressure was 152/110!  Needless to say I was not feeling well, however, I have been taking my antibiotics and some cold meds and feel like a new person!

I am a little late on Wednesday's poetry prompt, but more than eager.

For today's prompt, write a sound poem. For this poem, you can write a poem like the poetic form (click here to learn more), or you can just write a poem that incorporates a sound (like an ode to the sonic boom or that happens at a nightclub, etc.). This world is filled with sound, so it shouldn't be hard to come up with an idea.

The Sound of Night

Night has fallen on this house
silence has not.
I hear you snoring.
It reminds me that you're still here
and that I love you.

True Story

My submission for today's Poetry Prompt follows:

True Story
I looked outside the living room window and saw,
creeping out from underneath the snow,
a blade of grass.

So excited for spring I leapt to the door,
but on my way out I fell down the front steps,
right onto my ass.

True story.
